These are the faces of just a few of the dialysis patients of East Maui.

Some are living, some have died...but all had to undergo the long, arduous journey on the winding path of the Hana Highway to central Maui

to undergo dialysis.

Fathers, Sons, Mothers, Daughters--but they are all family--

Now there is an answer.

Hale Pomaika’i---literally, Blessed House, was dedicated on April 11 in Hana.

It’s the first of its kind in the nation, and years in the making the community of Hana finally has a home-based dialysis facility for patients and families, saving them the exhausting

thrice-weekly trip to and from central Maui.

Hui Laulima O Hana, the non-profit community based organization created to

see this project to fruition, has announced dialysis treatments are already occuring, but the dedication and blessing of the home, the FIRST of it’s kind in the United States, will occur on April 11th at 11AM, to be followed by a luncheon and music celebration for all.

The culmination of years of struggle, persistence and courage by the patients, families and friends in East Maui aided by citizens and government officials from all over the country helped make this dream a reality.

The home will be dedicated to the memory and spirit of the late Dr. Steven Moser. A friend and physician of many of the patients, past and present, whose spirit and love of the people of East Maui was omnipresent throughout the last

four years of this great endeavor. A memorial to Dr. Moser will be unveiled at the celebration.
